Feedback Symphony

Project description:

Feedback symphony is a performative project led by Gabriella Gardosi (Gaia Gaoi) and Antonio Roberts (aka hellocatfood), which collaborates with other musicians, performers and visual artists. The project explores the relationship between generative computer graphics and hand-drawn mark making.

Feedback Symphony Video: visuals from Gabriella Gardosi (Gaia Gaoi)

and Antonio Roberts (hellocatfood)  made in Birmingham, UK

Gaia Gaoi input:

Using the live drawing application, Tagtool, layers of digital drawings are

animated in real time. Abstract concepts of colour, translucency, form, line and texture are used to generate an evolving painting.

Antonio Roberts input:

Antonio will utilise Vjing techniques, programming and any available digital visual hardware to create noisy and glitch visuals. He uses a range of hardware and software to create an approach to live visuals that incorporates chaos, mistakes, errors and programming.

Surprising results were that black and white paintings input by Gaia could be manipulated by  Antonio to release a range of colours by interrumpting and distorting the signal.

Feedback Symphony Performance at The Wrong, New Media Biennal at Mutuo Art Centre Barcelona

The audiovisual performance was projected onto hanging nets filling a floorspace of 5m2 at Mutuo Art Centre, Barcelona, in November 2013.
